1950's Princess

Fashion for women returned with a vengeance and the 1950's era is known mainly for two silhouettes, that of the full skirt and the pencil slim tubular skirt, with both placing great emphasis on the narrowness of the waist. In the   1950s glamor had arrived. Think Elizabeth Taylor in "Father of the Bride", Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelley becoming a princess, soft feminine colors, delicate detail.Gowns should have ultra-feminine style and symmetry. Typically, 50s-inspired wedding dresses were adorned with lace or bow embellishments, and they usually have an exaggerated tulle skirt to accentuate your waist and create an elegant, hourglass shape. Smooth chignons, braided buns, and other traditional, pulled-back hairstyles compliment the 50s gowns. Make up has a more formal look, too. Go hyper- feminine with bold red lipstick and soft eye makeup to create a look that’s straight out of a storybook.

1940's War Time Restrained Chic

During the Second World War Paris produced restrained clothing to match the economic atmosphere.  There was an austere atmosphere and people were encouraged to 'make do and mend.'Uniforms were seen at all civilian social occasions from the movies, weddings, restaurants to black tie events.  It was impossible to go anywhere without being aware of war as uniformed men and women. The Veronica Lake hairstyle was very popular.  Glamorous styles with curls were preferred to the short styles of the twenties. For a 1940's inspired wedding think military uniforms, longer sleeves, and modest receptions. It s all about a restrained chic nothing over the top.

1930' Femininity

In the 1930s there was a return to a more genteel, ladylike appearance. Curves were seen and hair became softer and prettier as hair perms improved. Foreheads which had been hidden by cloche hats were revealed and adorned with small plate shaped hats. Clothes were feminine, sweet and tidy by day with a return to real glamour at night. In the 1930's two new neck lines were made popular the halter neck and the cowl neck.Think grand hats, furs, and Greta Garbo.

1920's Glamour

There was a real sense of decadence present in the 1920's.A time as people began to embrace life after the end of the First World War. Women were liberated, so waist lines dropped, hem lines rose and the flapper style was born!

For a 1920's style wedding think art deco, gangsters, a speak easy bar, black and white tie, peacock feathers, Bonnie and Clyde, The Great Gatsby, marcel waves, long pearl necklaces, feathered head pieces, mid-heel round toed t-bar shoes, silent movies, the charleston and Humphrey Bogart.

Pale Pink and Gray Ballet

With over two feet of snow on the ground I cant help but think soft breezes, flowering trees, and colorful flowers everywhere.  I cant wait for the time of year when we wear lighter, softer, flowing fabrics, and little girls dressed in their spring best.

For this board, I used two of my favorite colors of a spring wedding, pale pink and soft gray.
